Arsenal face Lewis-Skelly transfer concern as Real Madrid line-up Alexander-Arnold repeat

Arsenal may face interest from Real Madrid in Myles Lewis-Skelly, who could aim to repeat their transfer strategy for Trent Alexander-Arnold to sign the young Gunners star.
Lewis-Skelly enjoyed a breakout year for Arsenal, finishing the season as Mikel Arteta’s first-choice left-back after making 23 Premier League appearances in his first senior campaign.
However, having only turned 18 last September, Lewis-Skelly’s initial professional contract is set to expire next summer, leading to Real Madrid’s interest in pursuing a move for the teenager on a free transfer.
The notion of a deal was suggested by journalist Jonathan Wilson on The Guardian’s Football Weekly podcast, who hinted that Real would be encouraged of their chances of a deal after convincing Alexander-Arnold to run down his contract at Liverpool and move to Madrid on a free transfer this summer.
Wilson said: “[Arsenal] have got to sort out Myles Lewis-Skelly’s contract which expires next summer, and I think talks have not been going well from what I hear, and Real Madrid are sort of sniffing around there.
“Imagine Real Madrid wanting a highly-rated Premier League fullback for free, almost unimaginable isn’t it?”
Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri on course to sign Arsenal extensions
Despite Wilson’s suggestion that Lewis-Skelly’s contract negotiations ‘have not been going well’, FootballTransfers exclusively revealed in January that Arsenal are aiming to hand the youngster a new five-year deal along with fellow academy star Ethan Nwaneri.

Nwaneri was only able to pen professional terms after turning 18 in March and Arsenal had been hoping to announce long-term extensions for both him and Lewis-Skelly at the same time but the agreements have not been formalised yet.
While interest in both players is genuine due to their contractual situations, Arsenal remain confident in sealing new deals for the pair, with Fabrizio Romano saying last month that it is ‘only a matter of time’ before Lewis-Skelly’s extension is confirmed.
In any case, Arsenal would not entertain any offers for Lewis-Skelly or Nwaneri and Real’s interest is likely to be in hope that they can turn the youngster’s head rather than any expectation that he will consider snubbing a new deal at his boyhood club.
