Sesko has scored 39 goals in 87 appearances for the Bundesliga side, following his arrival from RB Salzburg in 2023, and he has been identified as a key transfer target by both Arsenal and Chelsea ahead of the upcoming summer window.

Mikel Arteta’s side have narrowed their striker search down to Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres, as per David Ornstein, while their London counterparts have a slightly longer list of options that also includes the likes of Liam Delap and Hugo Ekitike.

Despite competition from Chelsea, Arsenal are believed to be in “concrete talks” to sign Sesko this summer and they are eager to win the race for his signature as they look to bolster their first-team squad with the addition of a new centre forward.

However, Sesko has revealed that he will prioritise joining a club who are willing to focus their attention on his development as a player.

What has Benjamin Sesko said?

Speaking to German outlet Sport1, Sesko admitted: “The club has given me a lot and continues to give me a lot every day. It's a great club to develop at.

“[I want to] play for a club that suits me, that brings out the best in me. That's the most important thing for me.

“I'm currently a player for RB Leipzig, so I'm taking it day by day. If a transfer happens, and if it doesn't, then it doesn't.”

Sesko still has four years remaining on his current RB Leipzig contract, but he is expected to leave the club this summer.

The expert’s opinion

Bundesliga expert Ronan Murphy says: “Benjamin Sesko is not your typical enormous striker. Despite being 6 ft 5 in, the forward is more than just a bargepole in the box or an aerial threat. The Slovenian likes to drop deep, play in between the lines, and run at defenders.

“His decision-making sometimes lets him down, but at just 21, there is a huge hope that will improve with age and become one of Europe's best strikers. He has averaged almost a goal every two games for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga and Champions League, and has a similar return at international level.

“He looks ready to make the next step, especially with RB Leipzig missing out on Europe entirely next season.”
